By TRN Online, Kathmandu, July 23: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the limitations of press freedom should be determined.
Speaking at the meeting of the Committee for Legislation Management on Tuesday, Minister Gurung said that the press and judiciary need to maintain the performance status within the limits.
He said that nothing is beyond the limitations, even democracy has limitations. He said that when democracy is used more than necessary then it invites anarchy. The bill should be formed with the idea that the press is off-limits. Dignity and freedom of the media need to be maintained.
He said, "We all talk about press freedom and freedom of judiciary. But, what I believe is that everything has boundaries. There is a limit. Nothing in the world is beyond limits, even the country's democracy. Anarchism will find its way if democracy is entrenched. Therefore, anarchism should not come in the press, judiciary, and democracy. Let's keep it balanced. In the bill of the Press Council, only print media is regarded. We should not treat the press as unattainable, but the press freedom is always respected."
