Parliamentarians voice for making disaster response effective

Kathmandu, July 7: Lawmakers at the House of Representatives have drawn the attention of the government for effective disaster response as the entire country has been affected by floods and landslides for the past few days.     

In today's meeting of the House, they emphasized that the government should be serious in protecting the lives of the citizens and demanded that the rescue and relief distribution to the citizens affected by disasters should be intensified.     

Lawmaker Shankar Bhandari urged the government to be alert to tackle the possible risk to be caused by natural disasters.     

"In all 77 districts, rescue tasks should be the first priority after predicting possible risks. The government should be serious to protect the livelihood of citizens", Bhandari said.     

Likewise, lawmaker Narayan Prasad Acharya informed that the road and electricity services have been disrupted in the rural areas including Nisdi, Purvakhola, Mathagadhi, Rambha and Rainadevi of Palpa and drew the attention of the government to run essential services over there.     

Similarly, MP Hitraj Pandey stated that due to the continuous rains, there has been a loss of life and property in different parts of the country therefore, the government should take immediate response.     

Parliamentarian Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri said that the government's attention has not reached the rescue and relief of the citizens affected by the monsoon disaster. Emphasizing that the government should make a special plan to reduce the incidence of disasters that reoccur every year. He further said that the government should pay attention to managing roads blocked due to rain.     

Member of Parliament Chhiring Lhamu Lama Tamang stated that the Karnali highway was blocked due to flooding caused by rain and called the attention of the government to immediately operate the blocked road.     

MP Abdul Khan demanded to make development and construction projects resistant to natural disasters. Likewise, MP Raju Thapa pointed out that the entire country has been affected due to incessant rains and drew the attention of the government to make the response programme effective. (RSS)
