Illegal goods worth over Rs. 1 million seized in Nepalgunj

By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, July 4: A day after confiscating fabrics worth Rs. 3.8 million, which had been smuggled from India and stored in Nepalgunj to evade taxes, the police have again seized illegal goods worth over Rs. 1 million in Nepalgunj.

At 5:00 am on Wednesday, a police team from the Ward Police Office in Nepalgunj seized illegal goods worth Rs. 1.05 million, including mobile glasses of various companies, two motorcycles, and three bicycles near Basanta Malla Chowk in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-21.

As soon as the smugglers saw the police team, they abandoned the illegally imported goods, which had bypassed customs duties and fled the scene. 

Hari Bahadur B.C., Police Inspector of the Ward Police Office in Nepalgunj, said that the seized goods include 9,280 pieces of mobile glasses worth Rs. 896,000 from various companies, a Super Splendor motorcycle with the number plate Bhe-1-Pa-4765 worth 50,000, a TVS motorcycle with the number plate UP-40-AN-9202 worth Rs. 50,000 rupees, and three bicycles worth Rs. 9,000.

Inspector B.C. said that all the seized goods have been taken to the Nepalgunj Customs Office for further action.

Previously, on Tuesday, the police had confiscated ready-made clothes worth Rs. 3.8 3 million smuggled from India and stored in the house of Soni Gupta in Bhanubhakta Chowk of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-2.

Before this, various police units had repeatedly seized goods smuggled illegally from India.
