Lawmakers draw govt's attention on contemporary issues

 Kathmandu, June 28: Lawmakers have urged the government for rescue, relief and rehabilitation of victims of disaster incidents as incessant rainfall occurred for the past few days has caused loss of lives and property at many places of the country.

During 'urgent hour' in today's meeting of the House of Representatives, Teju Lal Chaudhary of the Nepali Congress drew government's attention towards huge damages caused by landslide and flood in Saptari following incessant rainfall occurred for the past few days. 

He asked the government for immediate rescue, relief, compensation and rehabilitation of disaster victims. 

Chaudhary called attention of the government to make arrangement for hiring qualified Maths, Science and English teachers to improve educational quality, saying the recent SEE results were not satisfactory. 

Similarly, Gyan Bahadur Shahi of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party urged the government to make environment for easy movement of citizens by carrying out repair and maintenance of Karnali highway as it has been damaged at eight different places due to rainfall. 

Reminding that country's economic system is at risk, he drew government's attention to create employment in the country to improve the economy. 

Govt. urged for preparedness on time to be safe from disaster  

Meanwhile, speaking in the 'special hour' of the HoR meeting, Mohan Bahadur Basnet requested the government to make preparations on time to prevent huge loss of lives and property caused by monsoon related incidents. 

Drawing the attention of the government towards the problems of dairy farmers, he asked the government to resolve the problems immediately. 

Basnet also urged the Cooperative Probe Committee to complete its work soon, saying billions of rupees of the people has been embezzled. He mentioned that the Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring and Fraud Control System (Teramocs) technology is the method of controlling illegal activities in telephone and it saves Rs 25 billion of the state revenue annually. 

Similarly, Lekhnath Dahal of the CPN (Unified Maoist) expected government's effective activities in rescue and relief of disaster victims. He pointed out that SEE results should be reviewed seriously.   

Likewise, Prithvi Subba Gurung stressed that Nepal Police and Nepali Army should be freed from political meddling. 

He argued that good governance could not be maintained in the society as there is a situation where police could not take complaints easily in some of the cases. 

Gurung also drew government's attention to carry out necessary works for the preparedness to be protected from disasters in coming days. 

Manish Jha of Rastriya Swatantra Party asked the government for effective implementation of issues of natural disasters and other important topics being raised regularly in the House during zero hour and special hour.

Govt. should review SEE results

Lawmakers Roshan Karki, Ranju Kumari Thakur, Rekha Yadav and Pradeep Paudel urged the government to review the poor SEE results, saying the SEE result published on Thursday has raised a big question over the quality of the school education. 

Drawing the attention of the Education Minister, they asked the Education Ministry to think about the psychology of the SEE-failed students.  The government should give an explanation in the House about this matter, they demanded. 

Similarly, Mahantha Thakur, Nainkala Thapa and Purna Bahadur Tamang put forth their views on contemporary issues, including this year's poor SEE results. (RSS)
