Hetauda, June 24: A zip line construction has begun in Kailash Rural Municipality-2 in Makwanpur district.

The Baikuntha-Kailash zip line is being constructed as part of a multi-year plan, backed by the municipality itself, to promote tourism in the area. Ward Chairman of Ward No. 2, Rajendra Ghising, informed that the zip line was being built to attract both domestic and foreign tourists by expanding road access within the municipality. He said that the development of tourism infrastructure like a zip line would help draw more tourists to Ward No. 2.

He said that the foundation work for the zip line had been completed and the installation of necessary iron poles was underway. He informed that approximately 35 per cent works on the project has been completed.

The Kailash-Baikuntha area in Ward No. 2 features several tourist spots such as Danphe-Munal Park, Bishnu Kunda, Viral Swing, the statue of Guru Rinpoche, Gupteshwar Cave and Satighat. Likewise, the area exhibits its rich culture in the form of Ghatu and Maruni dance.

Kailash Rural Municipality Chairman Lok Bahadur Moktan said that the zip line was being constructed as part of the infrastructure development to develop the municipality as a tourist destination.

The construction of the zip line is expected to cost Rs. 20 million and Rs. 3 million has been allocated in this current fiscal year. The zip line will connect Baikuntha Danda, which is emerging as a tourist area, to the nearby village of Kailash.

The project will include two stations for ascent and descent, toilets at two locations, a security guard quarter, a canteen, a ticket house and other necessary structures. The installation of a cable braking system to control the speed of the zip line is expected to cost around Rs. 2.2 million.

Chairman Moktan said that since the area borders Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-1 in Dhading district and offers views of the Himalayan range, the development of tourist infrastructure, including the zip line, will help increase the municipality's internal resources.
