16 suspension bridges built in Baglung

By Our Correspondent,Myagdi, June 12: In Baglung district, 16 suspension bridges have been constructed in the current fiscal year. The Gandaki Province government built five bridges and the local government constructed eleven. With the construction of these bridges, the daily lives of the people in the rural areas have become easier.

According to Gopal Sharma, an engineer at the Baglung Infrastructure Development Office, four bridges were constructed in Badigad Rural Municipality, four in Nisikhola, three in Dhorpatan Municipality, two in Jaimini Municipality and one each in Tamankhola Rural Municipality, Kathekhola Rural Municipality and Galkot Municipality. He said that all these bridges were completed within the deadline.

According to the Infrastructure Development Office, suspension bridges have been constructed at Phursa Ghat, Khare Khola Ghat, Daling Nigalpani and Sano Kiteni Ghat in Badigad. Similarly, suspension bridges have been constructed at Hakalabagar Jiwakhola, Athborghat, Selakhet and Karikhola in Nisi Rural Municipality.

Likewise, suspension bridges have been constructed at Lamela Ghat in Tamankhola Rural Municipality, Budikhola in Kathekhola Rural Municipality, Bhusunde Ghat in Dhorpatan Municipality, Damek Fedi Kusi Gaun Kalleni, Deurali Ghat in Jaimini Municipality, Uttarganga in Dhorpatan Municipality, Bhandari Gaun Kudung, and Chipleti Ghat in Galkot Municipality. 

The Baglung Infrastructure Development Office informed that nine more bridges are under construction.

Under the Suspension Bridge Sectorial Programme of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the local government has been selecting and implementing bridge projects. 

Engineer Sharma informed that according to the agreement between the Nepal government and the Swiss government, the Trial Bridge Support Unit (TBSU) and Provincial Technical Assistance Providers (PTAPs) Pokhara had been providing technical assistance for the bridge construction in Baglung. The construction of suspension bridges in the rural areas has facilitated transportation, easing the daily lives of the residents.
