By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 24: In a contribution to children's stories, Aaron Regmi (15), a school student from Bournemouth, has authored a captivating bedtime picture storybook for young children in Nepal. The book is published in both Nepali and English, making it accessible to a diverse audience.
More than just a source of entertainment, the storybook blends engaging narratives with meaningful moral lessons. Accompanied by vivid illustrations, the stories are designed to spark the imagination of young minds while gently teaching important moral lessons for young children. Recognising the importance of developing healthy reading habits, Aaron emphasises that reading before bed can significantly improve sleep quality as it is important for both physical and mental well-being.
He added, “I knew from my parents that their generation in Nepal had limited access to bedtime storybooks. This inspired me to contribute to this area.” This initiative aligns with broader educational and developmental goals, aiming to nurture well-rounded individuals through early literacy and moral education. The bilingual format further supports language development, particularly for children learning both English and Nepali.
Published by Kopila Kitab in Kathmandu, a publisher specialising in children's books, the picture storybook—Harry and the Red Balloon (in English) and Aruj Ko Belun Yatra (in Nepali)—represents a meaningful addition to children’s storybooks in Nepal, skilfully combining moral education with fun.
Last year, Aaron raised funds to support the costs of illustration, design, and printing of these books. This summer, he travelled to Nepal to unveil the book and returned to Bournemouth last week. “I was very happy to receive so much appreciation from schoolteachers in Nepal, as well as from my family and friends,” he said, after visiting several schools to share his book and future plans.
Aaron is now planning a charity initiative to raise additional funds by sharing and selling copies of the book, intending to provide sports equipment to rural schools in Nepal. Outside of writing, Aaron is also passionate about sports, particularly football.
