Four Nepali litterateurs participate in Bangla Poetry Fair

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 25: A delegation of four Nepali poets led by poet Chandra Gurung recently returned to Kathmandu after participating in a four-day international Kabita Bangla Roaming Poetry Fair 2024 held in three cities of Bangladesh.

Other members of the group were Prakash Thamsuhang, Ram Gopal Ashutosh and Avaya Shrestha.

Poets Gurung and Ashutosh spoke about the trends of Nepali poetry from history to the present day at different sessions.

With the slogan 'We want a world of peace/ A home of all human bliss/poetry for human beauty', the fair was inaugurated in Dhaka on May 16. Likewise, it was held in Chittagong on May 17 and 18 and in Narayangunj on 19. The fair ended in Dhaka on May 19 evening.

The fair was participated by big names in Bangladeshi literature such as Mohammad Nurul Huda, Khursid Anwar, Shyamsunder Sikder and others. Likewise,  Ruru Ruhail, Mahamudul Hasan, Amal Barua, Hossein Kabir, Yusuf Reza, Rupak Barua, Bhagyadhan Barua, Rupak Baran Barua, Ashish Sen, Kalyan Barua, Shahed Kayes, Pranab Kumar Chaudhary, Jamal Uddin, Anarkali, Apu Barua, Nadira Khanom, Tafiqul Islam Chaudhary, Shelly Sen Gupta, Mohammad Nural Absar and many others took part in the fair.

Moreover, singers Luparna Mutsuddi, Farhana Neepa, Razia Munny, Tariq Sajeep presented a peace song written by veteran Bangla poet Mohammad Nurul Huda. Besides, the fair had some poets from India including Mrinal Kantighosh, Meghnad Ghosal, Dola Bajpayee, Sadek, Shyamal Jan and Amarendra Chakraborty.

The fair had taken a roaming nature from this very year with the participation of eminent poets from the SAARC region. Poetry recitation, discussion on contemporary poetic trends and tour and sight-seeing were some of the events of the fair. The poets visited Chittagong University and Patenga Sea Beach and Sonargaon of Narayangunj and Bangla Academy in Dhaka.

'Our ultimate goal is to stimulate creativity, promote peace and share diverse aesthetic experiences of the poets of today's world,' announced veteran Bangla poet Huda.

On the occasion, Kabita Bangla Roaming Poetry Fair 2024, an anthology of poetry that included the poems by participants of the fair, was  also released.

The fair was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Writers' Club, Kathak Dhaka and Teerandaz.
