By Our Correspondent,Musikot, May 22: Bam Bahadur BK, a resident of Ward No. 10 of Sanibheri Rural Municipality in Rukum West district, successfully ascended Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) at 5:57 am on May 19.
BK was one of the 100 climbers who ascended the highest peak in the world on Sunday. However, he had a different purpose to reach the top.
“I climbed Sagarmatha to give a message to the world: Every human is equal, we should not discriminate,” said BK. “I have tried to represent an individual of a backward community who has been behind socially, economically, politically and religiously,” he added.
BK stressed that discrimination based on caste, religion, sex and community was against the Constitution.
BK, a non-gazetted first-class officer, is currently employed at Khanikhola Rural Municipality in Kavrepalanchowk district. He said, “I faced caste discrimination in several districts where I reached due to regular transfer. I have always found a disturbance in the wind when I introduce myself with my full name.”
Thus, BK stressed that he plans to raise awareness against discrimination across the world. “I will spread my message and motivate people to love each other by reaching the highest peaks of the seven continents,” he added.
Before climbing Sagarmatha, BK climbed Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America, on February 15, 2014, and Africa’s highest Kilimanjaro on September 27, 2023.
BK has also ascended Mt. Manaslu on September 23, 2019, and Lobuche on April 24, 2021.
BK informed that, three months later, he plans to conquer Europe’s highest peak Mount Elbrus and the peaks of the remaining continents by the next two years.
“Climbing a mountain is expensive in every way. That is why it takes time. I had planned to climb Sagarmatha in 2019; however, it was suspended due to COVID-19,” said BK.
