Walking on footpaths of Singha Durbar, Baluwatar, Baneshwar prohibited

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 28: Police have imposed a ban on walking on the footpath of Singha Durbar, Baluwatar and Baneshwar citing security reasons. 

After a group of microfinance victims entered the parliament building in New Baneshwar on Monday, the government decided to prohibit commuters from walking along the pavements siding the Singha Durbar, Baluwatar and Baneshwar. 

A rope has been stretched on the footpath next to the wall of the Singha Durbar with a banner ‘prohibited area’. 

Similarly, a rope has been pulled on the footpath next to the wall of the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwar. Similar kind of notice has been hung in and around Baluwatar, official residence of Prime Minister. 

Likewise, more police have been mobilised on the footpaths of Singha Durbar and New Baneshwar than on previous days from Tuesday. The security personnel restricted the general public from walking in the areas where the ropes are stretched.

Hari Prasad Sharma, Assistant Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, said that immediate management has been made given the security sensitivity after Monday’s incident in Baneshwar. 

After a group of about 50 microfinance victims entered the Federal Parliament Building on Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs removed the 32 security personnel from duty, including a police inspector, who were assigned for the external security of the Parliament Building.

The Police Headquarters on Monday formed an investigation committee under the leadership of SSP Dinesh Raj Mainali of the Valley Police Office.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha called an emergency meeting of security agency heads on Monday evening to discuss the intrusion of the microfinance victims.
