20.27 per cent of the population living under below poverty line:NLSS 2022/23

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb 12: Nepal Living Standard Survey IV 2022/23 showed that 20.27 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line as of 2023 using the new poverty line. 

According to the report, living standards have improved from 2011 to 2023, as shown by the Fourth Living Standards Survey. The Real per capital expenditure increased by 66 per cent on average with increase for the poorest 20 per cent (67.9 per cent).

Nepal has raised the bar for defining poverty, compared to the old poverty line from 2011, the new line raises the bar by 70 per cent to NPR 72908.

The new poverty lines showed that the living standards have improved significantly in the last 12 years. Nepal aspires to be a middle-income by 2030 raising the bar for defining poverty.

Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Min Bahadur Shrestha unveiled the Nepal Living Standard Survey IV 2022/23 at the National Statistics Office on Monday.
