By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 6: Police have arrested two travel agents on the charge of sending Nepalis to Russia to join the Russian Army.
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested 31-year-old Arjun Sunar of Gorkha Municipality-1, Gorkha, and 35-year-old Sher Bahadur Rai of Necha Salyan Rural Municipality-1, Solukhumbu.
The victim has complained that the travel operators sent them to Russia at the rate of Rs. 600,000 per person saying that the hotels in Russia would offer them attractive salaries.
A complaint has been lodged against Sher Bahadur Rai and Arjun Sunar, who are told as owner of Alaska Travel and Tours by Shankar Karki after his return to Nepal when he denied working in the Russian Army. The company has also been found sending Rajan Rai and Bikash Rai to Russia for their enrolment in the Russian Army by giving them false assurance by charging Rs. 600,000 per person.
Even though Karki was sent to Russia, after reaching there, Karki said, he refused to work in the Russian Army and told a person who came to pick him up at the airport that he came here to work in a hotel. Karki said that he had to pay 800 dollars to the person who came to pick him up at the airport.
After being told to work in the Russian Army, he returned to Nepal and filed a complaint against the persons who sent him to Russia.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) and Spokesperson for the Valley Crime Investigation Office Rabindra Regmi, it was found that the travel agencies have been found making fake documents to send them to Russia.
They were arrested on charges of human trafficking and the Crime Investigation Office has sent them to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further legal action.
Rajan Rai and Bikash Rai, who went with Karki, have already joined the Russian Army.
