By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 1: The price of the Indian onion has come down with the entry of the Chinese onion in Kathmandu.

The wholesale rate of the onion imported from India was Rs. 160 a kg in mid-December. But, now it has dwindled to Rs. 85 a kg.

According to the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board, onion was traded at Rs. 85 per kg on Sunday.

Onion prices in Nepal skyrocketed in mid-December as India decided to ban onion exports to countries including Nepal. However, Indian onion was available in the market.

According to the Board, the market receives about 80 metric tons of Indian onion daily while the Chinese onion amounts to only seven metric tons.

Binaya Shrestha, information officer of the Board, said that the price of the Indian onion decreased with the entry of the Chinese onion although the amount of the Chinese onion is not so big.
