Development of Valley should be carried out collectively: Mayor Shah

blog

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec. 18: Mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balendra Shah has said that the development of all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley needs to go simultaneously.

Addressing the programme organised on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Lalitpur Metropolitan City on Monday, Mayor Shah said that there should be the development of the metropolis to enhance the beauty of the valley.

He pointed out that the development of the valley as a whole became difficult with the clash between federal and local level laws.

“There is a correlation between Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolitan City. It doesn’t look good when KMC only progresses. People outside of the valley take all three districts of the valley as a whole. Therefore, there should be holistic development of the whole valley all at once and for that, all the municipalities should come forward simultaneously as well. We can discuss this on a local level between mayors and deputy mayors, but, there is a clash between federal and local level laws,” he said.

Mayor Shah requested Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to remove the obstacle created by the federal government for the long-term management of the debris of the Kathmandu Metropolis. He requested the government to make necessary attempts at encroachment of river streams.

Some work and change cannot be done alone by the mayors and from local levels. For that, there should be support from the federal government.

He showed dissatisfaction saying that the efforts to lighten KMC are muddled by the provincial government. When all three tiers of government move together, then the development of the Kathmandu Valley expedite.
