11th Nepal Human Rights Int’l Film festival on December 9

By a Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 8:The 11th edition Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival with the theme of ‘Collective Rights’ will be held in Kathmandu from December 9 to 12.

The four-day film festival to be organised by the Human Rights Film Centre will be held at Nepal Tourism Board and Film Development Board. 

 The festival will begin with Subhangi Khadka’s documentary ‘The Age of Learning’ as the opening film of the festival.

Altogether 54 documentaries, shorts, animations and fiction films from 26 countries selected through free competition from around the world will be screened at this festival.

Films and documentaries made on the subject of human rights received from Nepal, France, Spain, Britain, America, Australia, Canada, Oman, Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea, Germany, Iran, Turkey, Croatia, Italy, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Poland, Tajikistan, Norway, Ukraine, Bangladesh and India will be screened 

at the festival.

The jury of the festival includes Michael Brown from the UK, Anupama Bose from India and Pashupati Rai from Nepal. Five films selected by the jury will be awarded with cash prizes and awards under the international feature competition, international short fiction and non-fiction and Nepali short fiction and non-fiction categories. Similarly, the Best Nepali Woman Filmmaker will also be awarded.

Along with the film screening, there will be discussions among filmmakers, audiences, experts and human rights defenders on the subject of films and human rights. 

At the closing ceremony of the festival, British short film ‘Yellow’, directed by Elham Ehsas will be screened. The closing ceremony will be held on December 12 at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu.

Pandav Khatri, Festival Director and Executive Director of the Human Rights Film Centre, said that the festival aims to promote social justice and human rights 

through films. This year, more than 900 films applied for the festival from 87 countries, said the festival director.
