Ganesh Rashik and late Tara Devi feted

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 7: On his 33rd Memorial Day, Swar Samrat Narayan Gopal Guruacharya was commemorated with a special event organised by the Narayan Gopal Music Trust in Kathmandu on Tuesday.  

During the programme, ‘Swar Kinnari’ late Tara Devi and Ganesh Rashik Rai, a prolific writer, singer, and songwriter were honoured with ‘Narayan Gopal Smriti Samman’.

Tara Devi was honoured with ‘Narayan Gopal Smriti Samman’ award posthumously. Usha Sherchan, the president of the Narayan Gopal Music Trust, presented both Tara Devi and Rashik with the prestigious ‘Narayan Gopal Smriti Samman’. Each recipient was honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 51,000.

Bhuwan Chand, the Vice President of the Tara Devi Memorial Foundation, received the honour and award on behalf of the late Tara Devi.

Tara Devi also known as the ‘Nightingale of Nepal’, having lent her voice to more than 4,000 songs, has left an indelible mark on the world of Nepali music. During the commemoration, Ras1hik, a highly regarded personality, shared his sentiments about collaborating with Narayan Gopal.

Speaking at the event, he expressed that Narayan Gopal’s songs were an integral part of Sugam music, and without his musical compositions, the genre would be incomplete.

Established in 1990, the Narayan Gopal Music Trust has been consistently honouring creators. Including Tara Devi and Rasik, 40 individuals have been honoured over the years. 

The programme featured various artistes who presented a medley of songs sung by Narayan Gopal, paying tribute to his enduring legacy.

Narayan Gopal, also popularly known as the ‘Tragedy King’ of Nepali music industry, is credited with hundreds of evergreen love songs, including hits like ‘Yo Samjhine Maan Chha’,  ‘Aakha Chhopi Narou Bhani’ and ‘Euta Manchhe Ko Maya Le’ and among others.
