Banana farmers doing brisk business ahead of Chhath

By Our Correspondent,Inaruwa, Oct. 31: Local farmers in Sunsari have started selling bananas from their banana farms three weeks before the Chhath festival.  

The banana business has boomed in local markets. Bananas and their bunches must be offered during the Chhath festival. The sales of bananas have increased in Sunsari district, the traders said. 

Hari Mehata, a farmer, said that there is a problem in transporting bananas, which are considered essential for the Chhath festival. Some traders and people who celebrate Chhath have started visiting the local banana farms to buy the fruit. 

According to trader Rahul Sah, banana business has increased in local markets including Koshi, Bhokraha Narsingh, Harinagar, Devanaganj, Duhabi and Inaruwa. 

Banana trader Rajesh Mehata said that every family buys a lot of bananas during Chhath because it is essential. 

Now there is a crowd of people buying bananas in different markets and rural markets. Banana farmers said that bananas are being sold from the banana farm of Bhantabari, Koshi Rural Municipality 8, Sunsari. 

Each banana bunch is being sold at the rate of Rs. 300 to Rs. 800. Traders said that large bananas bunches are sold for up to Rs.1000. 

On the occasion of Chhath festival in the district, bananas worth millions of rupees are sold in different markets of Sunsari.
