By Radhakrishna Dumre,Syangja, Oct. 12: Waling Municipality in Syangja district will be honoured with the 'Asia Pacific Sanitation Excellence Award 2023' for its outstanding work in waste management.
Walling has been declared the best city by the United Cities Local Government Group of Asia Pacific (UCLG-Asia Pacific).
Mayor Krishna Khand has informed that Waling has been recognised as the best municipality among those in the Asia Pacific region.
Khand stated that UCLG has declared Walling as the best municipality after evaluating the municipality's efforts in waste management.
The campaign to transform waste into a source of revenue by efficiently managing various types of garbage generated within the city has proven to be successful.
He remarked, "Thanks to the cooperation of our citizens, the dedication of our employees, and the commitment of our elected representatives, Walling has been honoured."
Khand said that the municipality was dedicated to ensuring the correct compliance and implementation of specific points for sustainable development in the field of sanitation.
Dilip Pratap Khand, the former mayor of the municipality, who initiated the campaign to utilise waste as a resource, expressed, "We take pride in the fact that the municipality's campaign has been embraced positively by everyone." The executive committee under his leadership had undertaken the task of fully transforming waste into a viable source of income. The municipality will be awarded a prize of 5,000 USD. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Yiwu, China, from November 13 to 15.
