19th Asian Games: Poor show in judo and Rugby

By Bikram Giri: Hangzhou (China), Sept 26: The journey of Nepal in Judo and Rugby under the 19th Asian Games, 2022 (2023) has come to an end. Nepal's journey in judo came to an end with the defeat of remaining two players.     

Ranjesh Gole of Nepal was defeated on the basis of Ippon in the men's weight category above 100 kg by athlete from Kazakhstan in the pre-quarterfinals.     

Similarly, in the women's above 78 kg weight group, Akriti Joshi lost to an athlete from Uzbekistan on the basis of Ippon.     

In judo, four men and four women had competed from Nepal in various categories. Bikas BK, Jung Bahadur Saru and Indra Bahadur Shrestha in men's category and Manita Shrestha, Devakimaya Shrestha and Poonam Shrestha in women's category have already been defeated and eliminated.     

Meanwhile, Nepal's debut in rugby in the 19th Asian Games came to an end with no wins. In Rugby Sevens, Nepal's men's team was defeated in all the matches.     

In today's match, Nepal was defeated by OCA Independent Athletic Team by 68-0 points. Nepal lost all their 6 matches in the tournament. Nepal was put in Group D and was defeated by the UAE, China, Afghanistan, Thailand and the Philippines in the group stage.     

Similarly, three Nepali players who competed in Taekwondo were defeated.     

Govinda Bahadur Ale was defeated in the pre-quarterfinals in the men's under 63 kg weight group. He lost by 2-0 points to the opponent from Thailand in the pre-quarterfinals.     

Similarly, in women's under 53 kg weight group, Nepal's Ayesha Lama lost to South Korean opponent. Sandhya Kumari Singh was also defeated in the women's under 57 kg weight category. (RSS)
