Patan, Sept 26: General Secretary
of Nepali Congress Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the notion that 'federalism is
foisted' is wrong. NC should be clear on it.
"It is true that federalism is
not functioning well; we need correction on it. But, it is wrong to say that
federalism is foisted," Thapa argued while putting forth his views in the
going central committee meeting of the party on Monday.
Among the mainstream political
parties, NC was the first to hold its convention and endorse the adoption of
federal democratic system by ending the unitary system, he reminded, expressing
concern why the parliament failed to make 40 laws to enforce the system that we
established via struggle and movement.
"Whom are we blaming while
derailing the system achieved with hard struggle?" He wondered in the
meeting. Rather than worrying about 2084BS election, social harmony should be
fostered in the country run by the present constitution, Thapa suggested.
The General Secretary further
asserted that only NC was capable to maintain social harmony in the country as
per this constitution. "Our discussions won't function by shirking off
responsibilities," he underscored.
According to him, a central
committee meeting could be organized to hold frank discussions on performance
of ministers from the party and furnish suggestions for better performance in
the party. (RSS)
