4,748 cows receive vaccine against lumpy skin in Tilottama

By Kapil Gyawali, Siddharthanagar, Sept 9: Tilottama Municipality, Rupandehi has vaccinated all cows against the lumpy skin disease.

The inoculation campaign kicked off on August 6.  

In a program organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Janakinagar, on Friday, informed that a total of 4,748 cows were inoculated.  

Dr Urja Devkota, Veterinarian, said that of the total 5,093 cows, 4,748 got their jabs. He said," Diseased cows and pregnant cows were exempted."

 Likewise, 836 animals were diseased in the area. Currently, 44 animals are receiving treatment, while, 106 cows and oxen died of the lumpy skin disease. 

Narayan Aryal, Chief Administrative Officer of the Tilottama Municipality said that beforehand preparation was done after citing the risk of turning into a disaster.

A total of Rs 2 million was allocated for the inoculation campaign to curb the skin disease, but the campaign saw its completion in Rs 1 million. 

He said that Tilottama Municipality holds a high vaccination rate. 

Dil Bahadur Bhattarai, ward chair at Tilottama Municipality-2, said the timely inoculation saved cows from getting diseased. 

In the program, technicians and volunteer students were also awarded.

Likewise, the free vaccine against rabies kicked off on Friday in the municipality.

Umakanta Chapagain, District Coordination Committe started the prgram by adminsitering the vaccine to a dog. The campaign will run for a week.
