Literary magazine ‘Chakrapani’ launched

Kathmandu, Sept 15 : Chakrapani, a literary magazine published by Chakrapani Memorial Academy, was recently launched. The Academy has mentioned that the three-monthly was published in memory of late author Chakrapani Chalise. 

The magazine's editor-in-chief is Ram Mani Dhungel and its executive editor is Ram Gopal Ashutosh.

Renowned poet and Vice Chancellor of Nepal Academy Bimal Nibha, chairman of Chakrapani Memorial Academy Ram Mani Dhungel, authors Bindu Sharma and Mahesh Paudyal jointly launched the magazine at a function organised at Katunje, Bhaktapur.

Nibha mentioned that Chakrapani was a great talent but the nation was yet to know him well. “Chalise's prose as well as verses are very powerful that are very rich assets of Nepali literature,” he said.

Critics Sharma and Paudyal commented on the contents published in the magazine. Sharma opined that they had tried their best to make the magazine inclusive, but still, it was not free from some shortcomings. Paudyal suggested introducing more and more energetic young writers.

The Academy asserted that the magazine showed a glimpse of contemporary Nepali writings. In the starting, the magazine has published poems by Chakrapani Chalise, Laxmi Nandan Chalise and Yuddha Prasad Mishra. Write-ups by Ram Mani Dhungel, Harihar Timilsina, Chuda Mani Bandhu, Baijanath Chalise, Bhairav Risal, Ram Gopal Ashutosh, Hari Adhikary and Pradhumna Chalise are centred on the life and the writing styles of Chakrapani Chalise. A number of poems, essays and stories under the name of different columns are also accommodated in the magazine.

Executive editor Ram Gopal Ashutosh, who is also a promising young poet, asserted that he wanted to show the actual picture of Nepali writings in the big-size magazine. The magazine has 168 pages. “We have included new as wwell as old articles so that the readers can find the true picture of Nepali literature while reading it,” Ashutosh said. 

Chakrapani Chalise is a famous writer born in Katunje of Bhaktapur district on Kartik 20, 1940 BS. He has a number of books including Chakra Kavita Tarangini, Sahitya Mimansa, Nepali Paryayabachi Kosh, Nepali Bagali Kosh, Sankshipta Bharat, Nepali Sankshipta Ramayan, Meghdut Chhaya, Nitiratna Manjusha, Machhindra Nathko Katha to his credit. He died in 2015 BS.
