By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 24: A team of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) met President Ram Chandra Paudel and wished him a successful tenure.

During the meeting at the President’s Office in Sheetal Niwas on Thursday, the NCC delegation led by its president Rajendra Malla drew the attention of President Paudel to the present economic situation of the country.

In the meeting, President Paudel said that he was worried about the current economic situation of the country.

Taking into account the risky economic situation, everyone should bear the responsibility from their respective positions and make efforts to address the problem, he said.

President Paudel said, "The government has not been fully formed. As soon as the government formation is completed, I will call the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance to draw their attention to the issues that need to be addressed immediately.”

He said that the government and the private sector should work together to solve the present economic problems.

According to a press statement of NCC, President Paudel emphasised on building a self-reliant economy by increasing production and creating jobs.

NCC President Malla hoped that the President would pay attention to economic development and prosperity.

He said, "In absence of effective coordination while preparing the budget and monetary policy, the economy has not been able to advance as expected. Lately, due to the high interest rate, entrepreneurs, businessmen as well as general borrowers have been seriously affected.”

He said that economic activities could not return to normal due to inability to spend the capital budget adequately.

He emphasised that single digit interest rate should be maintained in order to make the economy prosperous and sustainable.

He suggested that the country can be made self-sufficient by making good use of barren land and modernizing and mechanising agricultural production.

Malla also drew attention of President Paudel to the arrangement that the agricultural loans be given to the farmers and not to others.
