Arthur Miller’s ‘Death of a Salesman’ to be staged as ‘Euta Sapanako Awasan’

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 10: Anup Baral, who is expert in presenting contemporary issues through grand sets and actors meticulously, is all set to direct another play titled ‘Euta Sapanako Awasan’.

 Releasing the poster of the play on Wednesday, director Baral wrote on social networking site Facebook, “What is comfort? And what is happiness? Everyone is after comfort forgetting happiness. Let’s take a look at the definition of comfort and happiness.”

The poster made public showed the desperate state of mind of the character with bowed head. ‘Euta Sapanako Awasan’ is a Nepali translation of the American play ‘Death of a Salesman’.

 The play written by Arthur Miller is translated into Nepali by Biplav Prateek.  The play, which won the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award, is considered one of the best plays of the 20th century.

The play staged more than 700 times in America has been shown in many countries around the world. Shekhar Chapagain, Divya Dev, Deeya Maskey, Menuka Pradhan, Bijay Baral, Bikas Joshi and Roy Dev Shrestha will be acting in the play. 

The play, which will start on March 15 and run for one month, has been produced by Govinda Parajuli for Govinda Productions in collaboration with Actors Studio and Mandala Theatre. 

Govinda Parajuli has said that the play is being rehearsed for the past one month and the work is being done with the intention of handing over the grand play to the audience from every angle.

“Our effort is to present the story that needs to be told with the same grandeur. We believe that the drama will satisfy the eyes as well as the heart of the local audience,” said Parajuli.
