Rita Thapa elected president of Nepal Folk and Duet Song Academy

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 27: Rita Thapa Magar has been elected unanimously as the president of the National Folk and Duet Song Academy of Nepal.

Magar was elected from the 8th general convention of the Academy  held in Dhadingbeshi, the district  headquarters of  Dhading, from  Friday. 

According to the Central Election Committee, Thapa was unanimously elected after no one filed candidacy against her. 

Thapa Magar, who has been engaged in the folk and duet song for over a decade, had previously worked in various positions of the Academy.

Likewise, singer Pashupati Sharma has been elected as senior vice president while Ramji Khand has been elected as the first vice president of the academy. Both of them have been elected unanimously. 

Likewise, Subas KC has been elected as the organisational vice president while Deepak Khadka as administrative vice president, Radhika Hamal as women vice president and Shiv Hamal as general secretary. All of them have also been elected unanimously.  

 Jamuna Rana has been elected as the women's secretary, also unanimously. 

However, other positions were decided through voting.

 According to the election results made public on Sunday,  Krishna Reule, Rameshraj Bhattarai, Khuman Adhikari, Purnakala BC, Raju Dhakal, Pushkal Sharma and Kulendra Bishwokarma have been elected as vice presidents.

Likewise, Devi Gharti, Yubraj Magar and Mahendra Gautam have been elected as secretaries. 

 On the women's side, Yakan Bhandari, Kala Lamsal, Usha Subedi, Karishma Dhakal, Smriti Timilsana, Jalumaya Gurung and Sushila Gautam were elected.

 The elected members include Shanti Shree Pariyar, Rabin Lamichhane, Khem Century, Manmaya Waiba, Kumar Pun Magar, Reena Thapa Magar, Prakash Bhatt, Sujan Lamsal, Purushottam Bhandari, Shree Krishna Bam Malla, Kumar Rana Magar, Balchandra Baral, Dinesh Kafle and  Kushal Belbase  have been elected.

All the elected office bearers and members took the oath on Sunday itself. 

 In the convention, 830 votes were cast although the Academy has 1, 051 voters.
