Elephant damages house of journo

By Our Correspondent,Birtamod, Jan. 25: An elephant has damaged the house of Surendra Bhandari, a member of the Province 1 Committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists.

A herd of 14 elephants came to his locality in Pratibha Chowk, Barhadashi Rural Municipality–3, Jhapa, at 1 am on Tuesday and ripped the roof off Bhandari’s house. The roof was made of corrugated zinc sheets. 

Bhandari is the associate editor of Purwanchal Daily, a newspaper published from Jhapa.

After destroying the roof, the elephants ate the food grains stored in his house. 

According to Bhandari, he has faced a total loss of Rs. 600,000.

The tuskers have been terrorising the locals of Barhadashi for many days.

Last week, the animals had damaged a house of the chairman of the Forest Consumer Committee in Damak of same district.
