TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 28: Farmers of Kavre
are getting attracted for vegetable farming as it has proved to be more beneficial than
growing other crops.
Farmers of specifically of Jyamdi and Gairibisaune in Ward No 5,6
and 12 of Madandeupur Municipality, Kavre are engaged in vegetable farming.
CDO Nepal had provided 14 types of seeds to 125 families from those three wards who were
engaged in active vegetable farming. They have been cultivating vegetables,
Prem Narayan Parajuli farmer, said that he had started commercial vegetable
farming.
He has now expanded cultivation to 5 Ropani of land. Now, The main

Inspired by their vegetable
farming Sangeeta Parajuli has also been cultivation vegetable for the past

6 month season. According to her the traders are coming to buy vegetables now.
Parbati Chaulagain of Gairebesane-6 , who has been engaged in
vegetable farming for more than a decade, said that she choose vegetable
farming because it was more profitable than other crops. She, however,
complained that vegetables coming from India were creating problems for local
production.
Similarly, Pursottam Dhakal of Gairibisaune-5, who is also engaged
in vegetable farming, also said that he was earning a good income. People now
look for the local product in the market as we produce pesticide-free vegetables, he

The annual profit from vegetables is one lakh 50 thousand
rupees," he added.
CDO Nepal started livelihood ACTIVITY UNDER SAFE MOTHERHOOD AND CHILD
CARE PROJECT livelihood project since 2019. Agriculture officer Mr. Gopal Prasad Sapkota
said “CDO Nepal is doing closely collaboration with
Mandan Deupur Municipality, Kavre and had provided the technical support, training
and vegetable seeds for them since 2 years which boost the knowledge and
skills of the farmers towards organic vegetables practices and earn for a
better livelihood.”
