By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 12: Temperature of the Kathmandu Valley dropped to 6.0 degree Celsius on Sunday. It is the lowest temperature measured this winter.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the temperature will decrease gradually in most parts of the country including the Terai. There is also possibility of fog in the Terai districts, it said.
Pratibha Tuladhar, a senior meteorologist at the DH, said that January will be the coldest month of the year and when the temperature has already dropped to 6 degrees in December, there is a high chance of extreme cold across the country this winter.
Temperatures will drop further in the coming days, and there will be chances of below-normal temperature in January next year, she said.
“There is no chance of rainfall in the near future, and the weather will remain generally clear throughout the country. There will be fog in the morning, but the afternoon will remain clear all over the country,” Tuladhar said.
According to the latest details of the DHM, the minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley on Sunday was 6.0 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature was 29.0 degree Celsius.
Tuladhar suggested the general people to take the necessary precautions to escape the increasing cold throughout the country. The minimum temperature in Jumla was recorded minus 4.5 degree Celsius and the maximum temperatures in Janakpur and Biratnagar were recorded 28.4 and 28.0 degree Celsius respectively on Sunday.
