Maneater leopard shot to death

By Our Correspondent,Tanahun, Dec. 7: The leopard, which was causing terror in Bandipur Rural Municipality, Tanahun district,  has finally been shot dead. The leopard, which weighed around 50-kilogram, was killed at Parche area in Ward No. 2 of Bandipur. A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ram Sharan Rana shot twice to kill the maneater. 

It was on November 2 that the Tanahun District Administration Office  issued an order to shoot the leopard as per the Local Administration Act, 1971. Section 9(4) of the Act states that the Chief District Officer shall order to kill a tiger, leopard or any other wild animal if it is creating trouble within the district. 

The leopard had killed five children and injured eight other individuals in different places of Bandipur and Vyas Municipalities of the district for the past few months.

The order to kill the leopard was issued after it became a threat to the locals. As per the Section 9(4), after killing the animal its fur or any other parts thereof to be handed over to the concerned Forest Office, or as instructed by the Ministry.

Leopards and humans have been in regular conflict in different places of Tanahun for the past five years. Alongside, Bandipur and Vyas, leopards have killed 14 children in total in Bhanu, Anbukhaireni and Shuklagandaki as well.
