By Ranju Kafle , Kathmandu, Nov. 29: As the vote counting of November 20 elections is coming to an end, the five parties in the ruling alliance are likely to win simple majority seats in the House of Representatives (HoR) and in all seven provinces across the country.
As of Monday, election results of 160 constituencies of HoR have been announced. Of them, the Nepali Congress won 53 seats and is leading in three other constituencies. The CPN-UML won 42 seats of the House and is leading in one constituency. Vote counting is yet to begin in two constituencies --- Syangja 2 and Bajura --- whereas the Election Commission has decided to conduct re-polling in 10 polling centres in Dolakha district of Bagmati Province.
NC is likely to win at least 56 seats whereas the Maoist Centre has won 17, CPN (Unified Socialist) 10, Rastriya Janamorcha one and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party four seats. Hence, of 160 seats whose results are announced, the ruling alliance has won 85 seats while NC and Maoist may also win four more seats.
Likewise, the CPN-UML has won 42 seats and one more could be added. Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Swatantra Party won seven seats each in the elections. Except this, Nagarik Unmukti Party secured three seats in the House of Representatives elections and Janamat Party won one while five independent candidates have made to the HoR.
Meanwhile, Ashok Rai of JSPN was elected from Sunsari 1. He was elected by securing 17,059 votes while his nearest rival Goma Tamang of Rastriya Swatantra Party got 16,606 votes.
In provincial assemblies, the parties in ruling alliance are leading in Province 1 winning 23 and leading in six seats. The CPN-UML is behind with 24 seats won and leading in one.
Similarly, in Madhes Province, the ruling parties had secured 28 seats in total while the UML has won 14 seats and the JSP-N nine. UML is leading one seat as per the EC’s live update till Monday evening.
In Bagmati Province, the five-party alliance has been in easy position to form the government. They have secured 43 of 64 seats under first-past-the-post (FPTP) category while UML has won only 12 seats. One seat went to Neapl Workers and Peasants Party.
Likewise, in Gandaki, the ruling parties won 20 of the 36 seats. The UML has secured only 12 seats.
In Lumbini Province, 24 seats have been secured by the ruling alliance parties. The UML won 18 seats while JSP-N and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have won two seats each. Janamat Party secured one seat and the independent candidates won three seats in the province.
In Karnali Province, 17 of 24 seats have been secured by the ruling alliance parties while they are leading in one seat. The UML won three seats. UML is also leading in two other seats.
In Sudurpaschim, 19 of 32 seats have been secured by the ruling alliance parties. UML has won only three seats in this province. Nagarik Unmukti party won three and is leading in two others. And one independent candidate has secured one seat here.
