Taplejung students receive scholarships

BY CHANDRA PANDAK,Taplejung, Nov. 15: George Band Memorial Scholarship has been presented to seven bright students pursuing higher education from the remote and mountainous areas of Taplejung district. 

Education Development Officer of Rural Education and Environment Development Centre (REED) Roma Kumari Mobo Limbu informed that out of seven students, three were provided scholarship for three years and four for two years. 

Mabo informed that Sajana Limbu and Vikendra Limbu of Tapethok in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-5 and currently studying civil engineering, had received the scholarships this year.

According to her, Sajana and Vikendra will receive an annual scholarship of Rs. 60,000 each for three years. 

Sajana is studying at Mohanmaya College and Vikendra at Sinam Secondary School.

Similarly, Kavita Limbu of Ward No. 6 of the rural municipality, who is studying civil engineering at Nar Bahadur Karmacharya Memorial Academy in Jhapa, had received a scholarship of Rs. 96,000.  

Yangla Sherpa of the same ward, and a student of science faculty, and Deepesh Limbu of Ward No. 5 had received a scholarship of Rs. 84,000 each. 

Yangla is studying at Kumari Boarding School, Kathmandu, and Deepesh Limbu at Damak Bahumukhi Campus.

Likewise, Sanjeev Tamang of Ward No. 4 of the rural municipality and Ayush Rai of Ward No. 8 had received scholarship of Rs. 72,000 each. Sanjeev is studying at Bhanujan Secondary School and Ayush in Ilam. 

Mabo informed that a total of Rs. 768,000 was distributed to the seven students. So far, REED Nepal has provided scholarship to 80 students.

REED Nepal has been actively working in Ikhabu, Lelep, Tapethok and Olangchungola of the remote Paktanglung Rural Municipality and Yamfudin, Khebang and Mamankhe of Sirijungha Rural Municipality. 

The main objective of REED Nepal is to produce technical human resource at the local level and to promote and develop education, Mobo said.
