BY A STAFF REPORTER, Kathmandu, Nov. 14: Reconstruction work on Maju Dega, the three-storied temple of Hanumandhoka Durbar Square, has resumed after the contract term of the project was extended.
The Hanumandhoka Durbar Area Conservation Programme Office (HDACPO) has extended the contract term till April 2023.
Its reconstruction work had formally begun in October, 2018, three and a half years after the devastating earthquake destroyed the temple. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has been reconstructing the temple.
The metropolis has not extended the contract term after it expired in November 2020. Roshan Shakya, chief of HDACPO, said that the halted reconstruction work has now resumed.
The estimated budget for the temple reconstruction is Rs.270 million.
After the extension of the term, the Natural Sanu Suwal Pawan Pvt. Ltd. has agreed to complete the reconstruction work by April 2023, he said.
“Major works, including the time-consuming wood carving work have been completed. Only the work to fix them is left,” he added
The significant progress made on the reconstruction would be seen after a month, said Shakya.
