Voters grilling candidates about past performances

blog

By Shiva Shankar Mishra Kalaiya, Nov. 14: Voters of Constituency 3 of Bara district have started demanding a detailed list of development works done by the previously elected representatives when they arrive in their homes asking for votes. “The previously elected lawmakers and provincial assembly members have filed their candidacies for the upcoming elections as well.

They cannot ask for votes as easily as other candidates because they are responsible to show their development works carried out in the past five years,” said Sanjay Tiwari, a local. According to Tiwari, the voters are asking these questions in every village as they want to be certain whether the previous assurances were fulfilled.

However, the previously elected representatives have been unable to give concrete reasons for  their failure to keep their promises.

“When the leaders were asked why the Provincial Hospital in Kalaiya was not upgraded, why was enough budget not allocated to procure health equipment, and why the allocated budget got frozen, they had no answer,” said Tiwari. As per the villagers, the leaders only blamed the opposition for their inability.

The elected representatives also had no answer when asked why they did nothing to repair the three-kilometre road from Audhapur to Bishwambharpur in the past five years.  The voters of the constituency also expressed their dissatisfaction over the lack of a quality campus for higher education, as a result,  all youth move elsewhere for higher education after completing their SEE.

The district’s only Ramraja Multiple Campus has not been upgraded in years.

The voters also did not get answers for the leaders’ incapability to increase employment opportunities.

“Jwala Kumari Sah was elected to the House of Representatives from Bara-3 and  also served as a federal minister. Rambabu Prasad Yadav was elected from Bara-2. Similarly, Paras Prasad Sah was elected to the provincial assembly.

They are being questioned by the voters because they deserve answers for their questions before they vote them again,” said Mohan Pandey of Kalaiya.
