President Bhandari returns home

Kathmandu, Nov. 13: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has returned home from Iceland on Saturday morning. Upon her arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, she was received by Vice-President, Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina and other high-ranking officials of the Government of Nepal.

In Iceland, President Bhandari delivered a keynote address at Reykjavik Global Forum - Women Leaders and also received the WPL Trailblazer Award 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) informed in a statement. 

She had reached Reykjavic to attend the forum held on 8-10 November. The forum was co-hosted by Women Political Leaders (WPS), the Government and Parliament of Iceland. 

Initiated in 2018, the forum is an annual event convening women leaders across the sectors, including politics, business, civil society, academia, arts and media. It is a platform to deliberate on the best practices on gender equality, empowerment and women leadership.

This year, Women Political Leaders (WPL) had decided to confer the prestigious WPL Trailblazer Award on President Bhandari. The Award is presented to incumbent and former women presidents and prime ministers in recognition of the achievements of the leading women politicians. Nepali delegation accompanying President Bhandari included senior officials from the Office of the President and the MoFA.
