Kathmandu, Nov. 13: The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday took action against those violating the Election Code of Conduct. On the basis of the clarifications received by EC till November 11, action was taken against various candidates, people’s representatives and employees along with the fines according to the prevailing law after they could not present satisfactory explanation.
Till date, Mayor of Pacharauta Municipality, Bara Jalandar Singh Jaishwal was fined with the highest amount Rs. 25,000 for conducting programmes that were not approved in the yearly policies and programmes.
Similarly, ward chair of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16 Mukunda Rijal was fined with Rs. 5,000 for violating Election Code of Conduct and asking voters to cast vote to a specific candidate on the social media.
Likewise, Trade and Export Promotion Centre officer Gokul Wasti, principal of Rastriya Secondary School, Achham, Tilak Kunwar, teacher of Shree Janta Adharbhut Bihyalaya, Jeewacha Yadav, House of Representatives candidate of the Kathmandu Constituency 1 Pukar Bam were also fined Rs. 5,000 each for violating the Election Code of Conduct.
The EC has also decided to send a letter to the District Police Office, Rautahat asking to further investigate into the case of CPN (Unified Socialist) chair and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal. A complaint was made against him that he had promised the voters to provide free visa and free ticket for the youths to go abroad.
