CPN (Maoist Center) unveils election commitments, stresses self-reliant economy

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct. 31: CPN (Maoist Center) has unveiled its manifesto for the election of the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly (PA) pointing at the need to develop a socialism-oriented independent and self-reliant economy.

In the 80-page manifesto or the commitment paper, the Maoist Center has said that the private sector will be included and encouraged as an important organ of the national economy.

“An investment-friendly environment will be ensured with favourable labour relations and safety of investment and profit. Public-private-cooperative-community partnerships will be adopted with importance. Cooperatives and the collective system will be promoted as an important basis of the economy,” read the ninth point under the heading 'main policies for socio-economic transformation' of the manifesto.  

The policy will be adopted to move forward effectively the programmes related to revolution in agriculture by reviewing the existing policies, plans and programmes, according to the manifesto.

Tourism, water resource, energy and the herbal sector will also be prioritized in addition to agriculture while the development of physical infrastructure will be given importance and processes for industrialization will be pushed ahead in a managed way.

Additional necessary laws and corresponding plans will be made to fully implement fundamental rights related to education, health, employment, food sovereignty and certainty of housing, read the manifesto.

The Maoist Center has also pointed out the need for changes in form of governance and election system for stability, peace and prosperity, and sought for an amendment to the constitution to change the existing provision on the form of governance.

The executive president will be directly election one, elected by at least 51 per cent of votes and the cabinet will be formed by the president. Provision will be made so that the parliament is focused mainly on the legislative sector. Similarly, in the province, the province chief will be directly elected and the provincial assembly will be focused on a legislative sector, according to the MC’s manifesto.

The HoR will be a 165-member body while the National Assembly will be 55 members and there will be 330 seats in overall provincial assemblies, read the manifesto.

CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' made public the election commitment paper amid a programme at the party headquarters in Paris Danda this afternoon.

The HoR and PA election is slated for November 20.
