By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 26: A couple from Jecheon City of South Korea has donated books, furniture, and stationeries worth Rs. 500,000 to Shree Shankha Devi Secondary School located at Patle of Neelkantha Municipality-1in Dhading district.

Korean businessman and singer Mr. Im Young Soon and his wife Ms. Lee Hee Ju have also assisted the school in having a science lab.

The couple had been in Nepal for the first time in December 2019 to experience trekking in the Annapurna Region. During their trip, they saw rural children studying in classrooms having no even basic materials like furniture and whiteboards. Then, they decided to contribute something to such needy children’s education.

As recommended by their guide Gopal Prasad Aryal, the Korean trekkers were ready to offer some help to the children of Shree Shankha Devi Secondary School. They were supposed to come back to Nepal in 2020 itself. But they had to postpone their plan due to COVID-19.

However, they were successful in handing over the books, furniture and stationery items to the school during their recent trip to Nepal. “We were very happy to provide our support to the school this time,” Im said.

Having received the books and other materials, principal of the school Kalpana Duwadi thanked the donors for the support.

During their stay, they visited Kathmandu, Pokhara, Ghorepani, Tatopani, Chitwan, Dhading and Nagarkot.

Meanwhile, Korean Rotarian Im, who is one of the founders of Jecheon Geumbongi Rotary Club of Korea, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rotary Club of Dhading.

As per the MoU, Korean Rotarians will help construct girl-friendly toilets in different schools of the district. Besides, the philanthropists will also donate furniture, whiteboards and build computer labs in schools.

“We are committed to providing such helps for the education of small children. We hope to continue assisting the Government of Nepal in its educational endeavours,” he said.
