Kathmandu, Aug 18 : A two-day cartoon exhibition was organized in Itahari with the aim of generating public awareness against corruption.
Lok Prasad Sangraula, Provincial Assembly member of Province- 1, inaugurated the exhibition on Monday, according to Devendra Thumkeli, vice chairman of the Cartoonist Club.
He said that political corruption had taken root in various levels of society and expressed his belief that the exhibition would help generate awareness against social evil.
The exhibition was organized by the Cartoonist Club in collaboration with the Centre for Media Research (CMR).
Altogether 50 cartoons were displayed in the exhibition.
Speaking at the program, Deputy Mayor of Itahari Sub-Metropolis Sangeeta Chaudhary expressed her commitment that she had never been involved in corruption and insisted that corruption would not be allowed in the sub-metropolis. Senior cartoonist Rabin Sayami said that through cartoons, the artists have been exposing distortions and anomalies prevalent in different aspects of society.
Similarly, Keshav Raj Khanal, President of Nepal Fine Art Journalists Society, said that the exhibition was organized with the aim of generating awareness in the society.
General secretary of the Club, Ravi Mishra, informed that they were going to hold exhibitions in all seven provinces of the country with the aim of making people aware of bad practices through cartoons. He said, "The exhibition has two objectives. There is direct communication with the readers while it will make people aware against corruption.”
General Secretary Mishra informed that cartoons focusing on various aspects of corruption in political, cultural, social, education, health, environment, and other sectors were arranged for the exhibition.
Mishra informed that the club has previously held exhibitions in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Janakpur.
Cartoons of Durga Baral, Mohan Shyam Maharjan, Gehendra Man Amatya, Narada Mani Hartmchhali, Jeevan Rajopadhyay, Ashok Man Singh, Rabin Sayami, Avin Shrestha, Rajesh KC, Sushma Rajbhandari, Basu Kshitij, Devendra Thumkeli, Ravi Mishra, Bhanu Bhattarai, Rabindra Manandhar, Yogesh Khapangi, Keshav Raj Khanal, Rajesh Manandhar, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Sujita Maharjan and Ramakrishna Thapa were put on display in the exhibition.
