Houses, health posts destroyed by landslides in Rukum West

Rukum (West), Aug 8 : Continuous rains have caused damage to different physical infrastructures in Rukum West. 

Landslides and floods triggered by heavy rainfall have damaged some of the houses, health posts, drinking water projects, and water mills.

Barkha Bahadur Bista, chairman of Sanibheri Rural Municipality, said that a landslide has completely damaged the house of Khadka Bahadur B.K in ward number 3. 

However, no human casualty was reported in the incident as there was nobody inside the house when the landslide occurred. 

Similarly, the basic health unit of Triveni Rural Municipality-2 has been damaged by a landslide triggered by the incessant rain. 

The landslide hit two windows of the health unit and cracked its wall, local Nabin Dahal said.

Three water mills at Musikot Municipality-9 in the district have also been damaged by a landslide. 

Ward chairman Shahi Ram Pun said that a landslide has completely damaged drinking water supply projects and the locals of upper hill and lower Aduwabari areas have been without drinking water. 

A flood in a local river has damaged the drinking water project destroying the intake of the water supply and its pipeline. Locals have been arranging alternative drinking water after the drinking water project got damaged. 

Meanwhile, landslides have obstructed roadways to Simratu-Rungha Kalapokhari. The obstruction has affected the locals of Ward Number 1 and 2 of Rukum West, according to local Dal Bahadur Pun. 

Roadways to these places have been obstructed for the past one week, he said. 

Likewise, roadways in Aathbiskot Municipality 1 and 2 have also been blocked following the landslide near the Phedi River. Children studying at Kalika Secondary School have also been unable to go to their school due to the landslide.
