'No Horn' campaign to be enforced strictly

blog

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Aug. 8: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO) and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) have announced that they would strictly implement the 'No Horn' campaign across the valley.

The authorities have requested the vehicle drivers not to blow their horn unless essential, stating that inspection would now be in place to control the unnecessary blowing of the horns.

The campaign's effective implementation was initiated jointly by KMC Mayor Balendra Shah and KVTPO's chief Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Mira Chaudhary from the premises of the KVTPO at Ramshahpath on Sunday.

Mayor Shah and DIG Chaudhary launched the campaign by pasting a 'No Horn' sticker on each other's vehicle.

The stickers were also pasted on the vehicles plying along the road in front of the Singha Durbar.

The Kathmandu Valley was declared as a 'No Horn zone’ to mitigate sound pollution on April 14, 2017. However, the campaign's effectiveness has been questioned as vehicles could be heard blowing horns unnecessarily along the roads. Hundreds of vehicles are said to be penalised in the five years period for blowing the horns.

A directive on 'No Horn' states that one cannot blow horn unless essential.

Meanwhile, 100 students from Padmakanya Multiple Campus have volunteered to assist the traffic police in making people aware about 'No Horn' campaign alongside other traffic rules.
