DSP Singh sentenced to 8-months in jail

By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, July 30 Suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramesh Singh has been slapped eight-month imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 15,000 on the charge of submitting a fake certificate by reducing his real age while enrolling in Nepal Police.

Although the Special Court had already convicted him guilty in the fake certificate and getting enrolled in the Nepal Police by producing forged documents, the punishment against him was announced only on Thursday. 

Judges Srikant Paudel, Shaligram Koirala and Balabhadra Bastola of the Special Court had given the verdict in March, 2022 and punishment was finalised only on July 28, according to Dipendra Nath Yogi, deputy registrar and spokesperson for the Special Court. 

With the publication of the full text of the verdict, DSP Singh was sentenced for an eight-month jail term. He was also fined Rs. 15,000.

DSP Singh had joined the service in November, 2001 as police inspector.

According to the verdict, it was found that he had crossed the age limit of 25 at the time of submitting his application for the job of police inspector.

Initially, Singh had forged the character certificate of SLC. Later, based on that, it was revealed that a copy of the citizenship was also issued based on the forged character certificate.
