By Laxman Dutta Pant Mahendranagar, July 30: Eleven bridges have been constructed over various rivers in Kanchanpur district at a cost of Rs. 1 billion. The Road Division Office Mahendranagar constructed 10 bridges and the former Bridge Planning Western Parts Sector No.3 Office (currently Bridge Sector, Dang) has constructed one bridge in the fiscal year 2021/22.
Along with this, the Road Division Office, Kanchanpur, has targeted to build five more bridges in the current fiscal year 2022/23, said Engineer Piyus Chataut.
"Construction of these important bridges has been completed. We have finished the construction of all 10 bridges within the given deadline. Now, we have a target to complete five more bridges this fiscal year,” he added.
The Road Division Office has constructed a bridge over the Balma River at a cost of Rs. 100 million. Likewise, the bridge over the Jogbudha River was constructed at Rs. 200 million while the bridge over the Sunbara River was built at Rs. 140 million and over the Bhatti River at Rs.60 million,
Similarly, the bridge over the Kharsah River was completed at Rs.50 million, over the Gharkatua River at Rs. 60 million, over Malaria Nala at Rs.50 million, over the Sutia River at Rs.70 million, over the Chaudhar River at Rs.110 million and over the Gandanala River at Rs.60 million, Chataut added.
Similarly, the former Bridge Planning Western Parts Sector No.3 Office has constructed the bridge over the Doda River.
Planning chief of the Bridge Planning Western Parts Sector No.3 Office Lila Bahadur Bhandari said that the 3-metre long bridge was built at a cost of 39.58 million. The Doda River surrounds Laljhadi village from all sides. The Bridge Sector Office has constructed the bridge on the western side of the village, he added.
According to Chataut, construction work on the five more bridges has also started after signing a contract agreement with the construction company.
The division would construct bridges over the Katha River, Mohana River, Bhujela River, Kamikate River and Malaria River. However, the construction of a bridge in the eastern side of the road from Bani, which was started by the division in 2009, is yet to be completed.
Rajendra Nirman Sewa was awarded the contract to construct the bridge at Rs. 250 million, but the contractor company did not complete the work even after taking Rs. 12 million in advance. With the construction of two important bridges in Kanchanpur this year and one in the previous year, the remote villages have been connected by road to the district headquarters Mahendranagar.
In lack of bridges, the villagers were unable to leave their village for three months for any administrative and other works during the rainy season. But now they can easily reach the district headquarters for any administrative task in monsoon as well.
Similarly, the bridge constructed over the Dodha River in Laljhadi Rural Municipality connects the entire Laljhadi Rural Municipality with the district headquarters.
Chairman of the rural municipality Nirmal Rana said that the locals were happy after the construction of the bridge. "After the construction of the bridge, the villagers have breathed a sigh of relief,” he added.
Similarly, the bridge built over the Jogbudha River in Panchbhoj of Dodhara Chandani Municipality-7 has connected Kutiakabar and other villages with the district headquarters.
