Bridge Generation Gap

blog

In the last 50 years, the globe has seen significant advancements in every discipline. The quality of life has become much better due to quick infrastructure improvements, and modern medical advancements have extended life expectancy. Modern technologies and communication tools have taken over the world and are used in every aspect of life. As the change is so rapid and unfathomable, people, especially from older generations, are having a hard time dealing with it.

Generation gap is not a new term. Throughout history, there has always been a contrast in both thoughts and actions between the predecessors and successors. But during a recent conversation I had with an elderly person, I actually came to realise the impact the advancing technology has on people from a certain age, more than ever before it widened the gap between generations’ mentalities. People older than us are having a hard time getting accustomed to the postmodern commodities.

However, technologies are not the only thing to blame for this enormous gap, some positive changes inaugurated by youths with woke movements are also taking time to get properly adjusted in the minds of older people. People accustomed to a single orthodox thinking are unable to grasp the importance of such movements. Gay pride parades are organised and run by youths so is the awareness against problems caused by inequality. People around the world are challenging the ancient societal beliefs that once shaped the life style and views of many people.

Those thoughts are merely classified as social stigmas rather than a way to life nowadays and getting familiar with modern way of life is challenging the mind of people who grew up in societies filled with people having different mindset.

Moreover, people are exposed to a lot of different sources of information with the help of technologies which helped change their mindset according to the needs of different types of people throughout the world. People have the ease to express their opinions through various platforms which impact the thinking of readers in every way. People from modern generations are highly aware of different mental health issues and they need care according to their demands whereas elderly people are ignorant to understand the challenges a common person faces on a daily basis and are quick to dismiss is as if it’s not impacting the very existence of a sufferer.

Furthermore, youths have rightfully started to question every blind faith insinuated by our culture and religion. There is a sudden surge in giving up a religious belief and pursuing atheism or any philosophy that could help an individual to truly define the meaning of life and purpose of existence. This is one of the main factors differentiating the generations, as the people from older generation have only a single way to life as they’ve been brainwashed by the societies that existed before them, their view of the world is narrow as their belief clouds their understanding of life itself.

In spite of all the things, we cannot blame the generation as the whole as they’ve been raised in a society that ran through fear and oppression of people who dared to raise a question against the system. Many people from older generation are now trying their best to be accustomed to the modern world and it’s going on and it should be our duty to help them see a path to a better and fair world.
