Mahottari, July 23: Mayor of Gaushala Municipality of Mahottari district is dedicated to upgrade the health sector of the municipality.

Weeks after assuming his office, Mayor Dr. Dipendra Mahato of the municipality has already started adding one facility after another in the health sector, which has made the locals happy.

“Our mayor is seriously working to upgrade the health sector as he has started working in two health centres of the municipality this week,”  said Bhola Mahato, a local youth.

Mahato said that he would help mayor set up a laboratory in the health centre of Kanti Bazaar of the municipality and a snakebite treatment facility in the primary health centre.

“Our mayor had promised to prioritise the health sector during the local level election,” said Ram Ekwal Yadav, a local resident. He added that as the mayor is a doctor, all the people of the municipality are hopeful that the health sector in the municipality would be improved.

As the municipality has already started snakebite treatment, which had remained closed for some years at Gaushala primary health centre, no one will have to die of snakebite, said Yadav.

The mayor was concerned to resume the treatment service after a six-year-old girl died of snakebite in a cowshed recently, according to locals.

Along with snakebite treatment, the municipality has managed emergency patient monitor and medical oxygen. Earlier, the locals were compelled to take snakebite patients to the health centres of Bardibas and Jaleshwar.

Gaushala municipality has started the laboratory keeping in mind the need to make the health services accessible to every citizen. Local youth Yadav said, "As the mayor himself is an MD (General Physician), he is well aware of the need of health services to the locals of the municipality and is moving forward accordingly."
