632 families in Baglung wait government subsidy to rebuild damaged shelters

Balewa, June 23 (RSS) :  Tilak Thapa of Kushmisera of Jaimini municipality -1 in Baglung lost his home to a landslide triggered by heavy monsoon rainfall three years ago. He was a little bit hopeful about finding a new home when he came to know that the government would be assisting them to rebuild the house.    

It has been about two years since he submitted the documents required for claiming the government subsidy to the local government, but no further progress so far.

Thapa represents 632 natural disaster survivors throughout the district who are desperately waiting for the government subsidy so that they could build new shelters. Thapa and his family is taking refuge at his neighbor’s home since the incident.    

It is said the local government is yet to complete the process to make listed survivors eligible for receiving the assistance.    
As per the government work procedures, compensation of Rs 400 thousand has been promised for a house completely damaged by monsoon-related disasters in the hilly region.

It requires a 60 percent contribution followed by 30 percent of the province and 10 percent of the local government to provide subsidies under the monsoon-related disaster-affected reconstruction program.    

However, the local government is yet to finalize the process to pave the way for survivors to claim the subsidy, District Administration Office Baglung said.    

Following the verification by the DAO, data about survivors shall be entered into the Mobile app for the release of assistance, according to DAO employee Tejraj Gautam. In case of many survivors, documents are not enough to enter their details in the Mobile app while some claims with the attachment of all documents have been found not entered in the app.
