Eye camp organised in Simkot, Humla

BY A STAFF REPORTER Kathmandu, June 17: A health camp meant for eye examination has been organised at Simkot in Humla district. A technical team led by Prof. Dr. Govinda Poudyal, Ophthalmologist of Tilganga Institute of Opthalmology (TIA), has examined 852 people having eye problems in the two-day health camp. 

Among them, 111 surgeries were conducted including 107 cataract surgery. 

The camp was held in special support of Health Service Office, District Hospital Simkot, Eye Treatment Centre Humla run by Netra Jyoti Sangh, Himalaya Eye Hospital and Nepal Red Cross Society. 

The eye camp was organised by Yalbang, Namkha of the Namkha Rural Municipality. Prior to the operation of the camp, the eye assistant and office assistant of Namkha Rural Municipality had reached different villages to identify the people having cataract problem. 

The selected cataract patients were brought at the camp with the help of the Himalayan Children's Society, a local school support organization. Khemchok Lama, a 72-year-old resident of Yari, was very happy to revive his vision after he underwent eye surgery in the camp. 

An eye treatment centre has been established in Yalbang of Namkha Rural Municipality. The centre was established with the cooperation between the rural municipality and TIA, Kathmandu and Sewa Foundation. The Namkha Eye Treatment Centre has been inaugurated along with the eye camp.

The eye centre was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Govinda Poudyal, an eye specialist of Tilganga Institute of Ophthamology, Dharmaraj Neupane Chief Executive Officer of Namkha Rural Municipality, and Latar Lama, ward chairperson of the rural municipality. 

This eye centre will provide continuous service to the local people. The eye centre is one of the most remote eye treatment centres operated 

with the support of TIA. The rural municipality is the first in Humla district to operate an integrated health care system.
