Online, Kathmandu, June 13: Blood Donors Association, Nepal (BLODAN)
has been running a week-long blood donation campaign targeting World Donors
Day, which is celebrated on June 14 every year.
On the sixth day of the campaign, BLODAN held today a blood donation
programme at the premises of Basantapur Durbar Square in order to collect blood
from walk-ins and to aware people of the need for blood donation.
The organization was established in the year 2049 B.S with an
aim to provide blood to needy people.
Binod Poudel, aged 35, who walked in for blood donation amid
the campaign, said, “I am donating blood because my one pint of donated blood
can save a life.”
Sanu Babu Prajapati, Chairperson of the Association said that the
organization was started with the noble thought of collecting blood and then
imparting it to people who are in need of them.”
Blood transfusion is needed for operations, during childbirth,
and in major accidents cases, but we cannot produce them by machine, and
therefore, we need blood donors.
“Understanding that blood cannot be manufactured anywhere else
and only humans can donate them, we conduct different campaigns not only blood
donation but to aware people of its benefits,” said Janak Khadka, Chairperson
at the Nepal Blood Donors Association, Kathmandu, District, while adding, “ One
donor in each house.”
Likewise, Saraswoti Gautam, Treasurer of the Nepal Blood
Donors Association, said that today’s campaign targets to collect 50-52 pints
of blood. All the collected blood will be handed to the Central Blood
Transfusion Service of the Nepal Red Cross Society (NCRS).
