Storms damage banana farms in Banke-Bardiya, 16,000 banana trees destroyed

By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, June 12: Fruits have been damaged due to strong winds in Banke-Bardiya of western Nepal on Saturday evening.

According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center, Nepalgunj, banana and mango farming in both districts has been severely damaged due to the strong winds.

Banana farms at Bardia Gulariya and Kohalpur in Banke of Nepal Agriculture Development Farm have been severely damaged by the storm.

More than 16,000 banana trees on the farms in both districts have been destroyed.

Chief of the Agriculture Knowledge Center Nepalgunj, Sagar Dhakal, said that the bananas that were about to ripen have been destroyed.

He said that more than half of the banana plantations planted on 10 bighas of land in Banke and Bardiya have been destroyed by the wind and caused a loss of around Rs 2 million.

Chief of Nepal Agriculture Development Farm Devendra Adhikari said that 12,000 banana trees were destroyed in Bardiya alone. He said that about 4,000 banana trees were destroyed in Banke.
