'Don't post misleading contents about polls on social media'

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 1: The Election Commission (EC), Nepal has warned against posting any content that may affect the impartiality, fairness, and dignity of the election on social media platforms.

The EC issued the warning by holding a press meet on Sunday.

Shaligram Sharma Paudel, EC spokesperson and joint secretary, said at the press meet that those failing to follow the EC directives will face action as per the laws.

"It has been noted that misleading information, harmful publicity and ill-intended expressions have been posted in the social media targeting the candidates and political parties which have filed nominations for the local level election, 2079," read the press release of the EC issued after the press meet.

"The EC warns against posting such wrong contents that mislead people, spread illusions, aim at character assassination and affect the election directly," added the EC.

The EC has drawn attention of all concerned to stop doing such activities that go against the conduct as mentioned in Chapter-2 of the election code of conduct-2078 that also mentions about the use of the social media and the provision stipulated in the section 22 (H) of the same code of conduct.
