India reports 3,324 new COVID-19 cases

NEW DELHI, May 1 (Xinhua) -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 43,079,188 on Sunday with 3,324 new cases registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the health ministry's latest data.

This is the fourth day when the number of new cases breached the 3,000-mark, after lying low for the past several months.

Of the new cases, 1,520 were reported from Delhi. Presently there are 5,716 active cases in the national capital and the positivity rate stood at 5.10 per cent.

Besides, as many as 40 deaths across the country due to the pandemic since Saturday morning took the total death toll to 523,843.


There are 19,092 active COVID-19 cases in the country, a rise of 408 during the past 24 hours. The number of active cases had been on the decline for the past couple of months but has been increasing for the past few weeks.

So far 42,536,253 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals, out of which 2,876 were discharged during the past 24 hours.
